Issa pushes ahead with Holder contempt vote despite Obama intervention

Rep. Darrell Issa said Wednesday that he is pressing ahead with a committee vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, despite an 11th-hour move by President Obama to exert executive privilege over the Fast and Furious documents at the heart of the dispute.

The announcement immediately touched off a caustic debate on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, as Democrats accused Issa of prosecuting a "political witch hunt" and Republicans stepped up their criticism of Holder's "stonewalling" over the Fast and Furious probe. Even for Washington, the tone at the hearing was decidedly bitter and accusatory.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee was first informed of the president's decision to exert executive privilege in a letter Wednesday morning, shortly before the contempt vote was scheduled.

Fathers Day: "When the State Breaks a Man"

I received the Sentinel link on this Friday, spent some time last night reading further and was intending to write today about it but William Griggs has an excellent post on it and how the State of New Hampshire broke this man.

One evening in April 2001, Mr. Ball suffered a momentary lapse of patience with a disobedient four-year-old daughter and slapped her face. He left the house at his wife's suggestion. When he called her a short time later, he learned that his wife -- "the type that believes that people in authority actually know what they are talking about" -- had called the police, who told her that her "abusive" husband wasn't permitted to sleep in his own home that night. Ball was arrested at work the following day. Under the conditions of his bail, he wasn't allowed to ask his wife what had possessed her to call the police.

Years later Ball would learn that if his wife hadn't called the police and accused her husband of abuse, she would have been arrested as an accessory -- leaving the children at the mercy of New Hampshire's utterly despicable Division of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).

Dot Knightly, who tried vainly for years to win custody of three grandchildren seized on the basis of spurious abuse and neglect accusations, recounts how a DCYF commissar contemptuously batted away both her pleas and her abundant qualifications to serve as a custodial caretaker: "Nobody gets their kids back in New Hampshire. The government gives us the power to decide how these cases turn out. Everyone who fights us loses."

Everyone should read Mr. Ball's statement- not merely Fathers, everyone as his facts and figures should open your eyes. The state is a monster- at every level and for those that think this hyperbole, I remind you of the Ballad Of Carl Dregga who chose another route. First, the testimony of the ATF agents at the hearing today demonstrated that there was no "sting", thus there could not have been a "botched sting." What there was, it seems, was a program to encourage straw purchases and smuggling, but no "sting" by any known meaning of that word. Which begs the question, why? Issa, nettled by Cummings' complaints of a "political agenda" responded by asking if the entire purpose of allowing large numbers of weapons into Mexico didn't itself serve a political purpose? Meaning, of course, further restrictions on American firearm rights. Precisely.

Mike Vanderboegh and David Codrea truly deserve heaping praises for their tenacious grip since last December. It was they and the boys at CleanUp ATF that got the ball rolling and are closer and privy to much more information than I and why I want everyone to go read their posts, especially today's from MVB in regards to the Project Gunwalker hearings.

I watched over lunch to see so much fecklessness by certain representatives, Suckass and Lacy to name two, is angering and if you watch, you will understand my earlier post. Moreover, anymore I have nearly ZERO capacity for toleration of such- not just from politicians but those like Weasel Weich as well. However, I want to point out two things from this afternoons hearings- one was Blake Farenthold's suggestion about PRIVATE viewing of documents and then Issa's offer at the end of today's hearings about REDACTION. Remember everyone, they are POLITICIANS.

The Big Clubs in Mexico's Drug War Aren't Slipping Through the Gun-Show Loophole

Another series of leaked State Department cables made public this week by WikiLeaks lend credence to investigative reports on gun trafficking and the drug war published by Narco News as far back as 2009.

The big battles in the drug war in Mexico are "not being fought with Saturday night specials, hobby rifles and hunting shotguns," Narco News reported in March 2009, against the grain, at a time when the mainstream media was pushing a narrative that assigned the blame for the rising tide of weapons flowing into Mexico to U.S. gun stores and gun shows.

Rather, we reported at the time, "the drug trafficking organizations are now in possession of high-powered munitions in vast quantities that can’t be explained by the gun-show loophole."

Those weapons, found in stashes seized by Mexican law enforcers and military over the past several years, include U.S.-military issued rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers and explosives.

Deputies do not know who tossed the explosive inside El Booty Lounge, 3701 N. "I" Road late Saturday night, said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño.

Authorities evacuated the bar after they received a call about the explosive, which was apparently tossed into the bar. No injuries were reported and bomb did not detonate because both pins were not removed, Treviño said.

A live grenade tossed into a Pharr bar last month came from the same cache of weapons used in recent attacks on a Monterrey television station and that city's U.S. Consulate, law enforcement officials said.

Investigators have traced the explosives used in each incident to a lot manufactured in South Korea and later discovered in a stash house believed to be run by the Zetas, the heavily armed paramilitary wing of the Tamaulipas-based Gulf Cartel.

That title is a parody of the "Project Gunrunner" name the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has assigned to its southwest border initiative on U.S. guns going to the Mexican drug criminals, and refers to sourced information that the bureau has intentionally—and importantly, criminally, and with management cognizance—allowed guns to be transported across the border while keeping Mexican authorities in the dark.

We also touched on allegations regarding the gun used in the recent killing of a Border Patrol agent, and established some key questions for investigators to follow up on.

On deep background, entirely off the record, and without any proper names for attribution, I simply still am compelled to report this story of alleged bureaucratic horror and alleged American death in the forsaken Arizona Peck Canyon region on the night of December 14, 2010, when U.S. Border Agent Brian Terry died after a firefight with armed Mexican drug cartel members.

My journalism professor in the 50's told us to never discount a rumor. "There's always a germ of truth in any rumor you're told," he said. "While it may not be exactly what happened, don't ignore it, dig for the truth."

Now my source in the AZ border region tells me a story so upsetting I am without words. But here it goes:

"Bottom line: A series of bad Border Patrol/Department of Homeland Security procedures, policies, and protocol, all designed to protect Mexican criminals inside the U.S., most likely resulted in the needless death of Agent Brian Terry on the night of Dec. 14, 2010." The word is out that when Agent Terry and the illegal alien, a bandit, twice deported, who assaulted another Phoenix cop, were wounded in their shootout, the decision was made to airlift out the alien on the only BORSTAR helicopter available in that desolate region of the U.S. Now under a very strict gag order by brass in D.C., Nogales, and Tucson, agents have been threatened with firings, job termination, if “they are caught talking about the facts of Terry's murder!" The tipster then goes on to relate that Terry, a legal U.S. citizen, one of our own law enforcement men, finally was loaded onto some desert transport overland vehicle and driven out somewhere where another copter was parked. Terry died; the illegal drug cartel Mexican national who got first medical priority, of course, lived!

The unconfirmed and un-attributable source then concludes, "Agent Terry reportedly waited many minutes-up to 1/2 hour-before they flew him out of the canyon region." Terry appears to have "died en route to the hospital!"

I am waiting to hear back from some sources to verify or debunk this, however, gut instinct from other things I know- it sounds true.

We give consent through a process known as elections. Those who argue that the fact that an election didn't have the outcome they wanted means they have right to take up arms are not only incorrect, they're delusional and, it can be argued, have violated Federal Law besides.

Representative Republics, of which The United States is, are formed on the premise that the people elect persons to represent and discharge their wishes in the various organs of government. That we continue to send people to Congress and The White House who fail to discharge our demands in the form and fashion we desire is no fault but ours.

There are, in fact, candidates besides Democrats and Republicans on the ballot. In most states you can also write in a candidate. That you believe no candidate other than a "D" or "R" can win does not make it so. It simply means that you, along with your other countrymen and women, are willing to vote for and elect the person who holds the office, irrespective of the fact that they did not do as you directed, or as they promised.

In short, you are free, as a citizen, to be a masochist. We are, in fact today, a nation of masochists.

The above four paragraphs are from the middle of the article and all of it is well worth the read- but I do not agree with all of it.

Denninger states that the only time the 2nd Amendment is valid against the government is when those who loose an election refuse to leave. This is but one and I think there are others and Denninger actually lists one that I think is the most important reason- can you, the reader, think of others?

KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN -- To the U.S. Army soldiers and Marines serving here, some things seem so obviously true that they are beyond debate. Among those perceived truths: Tthe restrictive rules of engagement that they have to fight under have made serving in combat far more dangerous for them, while allowing the Taliban to return to a position of strength.

"If they use rockets to hit the [forward operating base] we can't shoot back because they were within 500 meters of the village. If they shoot at us and drop their weapon in the process we can't shoot back," said Spc. Charles Brooks, 26, a U.S. Army medic with 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, in Zabul province.

Word had come down the morning Brooks spoke to this reporter that watch towers surrounding the base were going to be dismantled because Afghan village elders, some sympathetic to the Taliban, complained they were invading their village privacy. "We have to take down our towers because it offends them and now the Taliban can set up mortars and we can't see them," Brooks added, with disgust.

I was just saying what about our Pantywaist Republic? Ignoring the fact that our soldiers have been sent into an un-Constitutional war, the ROE continually get OUR men killed because of the asinine concept of Political Correctness.

I am saying nothing that already has not be stated- such is obvious but needs to be said again. The military is designed for two things- to kill people and break things. ZAPATA — State police in Tamaulipas looking for David Hartley’s body are now investigating the murder of one of their own. Miguel Alemán State Police Commander Rolando Armando Flores Villegas’ head was delivered in a suitcase Tuesday to the military post in Miguel Alemán.

Officials quickly denied connection between Villegas’
apparent murder and Hartley’s disappearance.

Of course, absolutely nothing to do with the investigation...

Sixteen Illegal Indians Today

Today, September 21, 2010, sixteen illegal Sub-Continent Indians were released by ICE- captured by Border Patrol about twenty (20) days ago. Immediately at arraignment, a lawyer produced bond for everyone of them- each already highly coached on the correct answers that gets them bonded and released. They were held for twenty days (20), bonded and then released under their own recognizance. Why you ask? The Muslim Kenyan wants it so and says they are SUPPOSEDLY NO THREAT!

AND HERE IS THE REALLY GOOD PART

A person is considered a "high value detainee" if they fulfill one of the following criteria.

1. poses a threat of an attack on civilians or civilian facilities within the U.S. or U.S. facilities abroad;
2. poses a threat to U.S. military personnel or U.S. military facilities;
3. potential intelligence value;
4. is a member of al Qaeda or a terrorist group affiliated with al Qaeda or
5. such other matters as the President considers appropriate.

I am reminded of one quote from the movie TOMBSTONE by Doc Holiday- everyone should be saying such because of number five.
