SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- While attending a meeting for business leaders in Sanford, Governor Paul LePage spoke out about why he would not attend Martin Luther King ceremonies on the upcoming holiday.

LePage has declined invitations from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The organization has already expressed its displeasure with the governor's plans to not attend the events.

"They are a special interest. End of story...and I'm not going to be held hostage by special interests. And if they want, they can look at my family picture. My son happens to be black, so they can do whatever they'd like about it," said LePage.
I had not heard of Maine's new governor until today and beyond his refusal to knuckle to special interests, he states the following at his election site:
Your Right to Bear Arms

Paul supports the 2nd amendment–no exceptions. Article I, Section 16 of the Maine Constitution says it best:

"Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned."

While Paul is Governor, he will:
  • Protect Mainers' Gun Rights. Paul will veto any legislation that restricts Mainers' constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.
  • Preserve Mainers' Ability to Defend Themselves. Paul will re-evaluate all policies to ensure Mainers' right to defend their families from danger in their homes will receive the legal protections they deserve.
Mainers, I hope he is as strong on the 2nd and the rest of your liberties.

Good show Governor LePage!
