TRENTON - A 14-year-old New Jersey girl has been accused of child pornography after posting nearly 30 explicit nude pictures of herself on MySpace.com — charges that could force her to register as a sex offender if convicted.

The case comes as prosecutors nationwide pursue child pornography cases resulting from kids sending nude photos to one another over cell phones and e-mail. Legal experts, though, could not recall another case of a child porn charge resulting from a teen’s posting to a social networking site.
I could say I am amazed by the stupidity of the child and her parents, but I cannot- kids are stupid however that DA and his charges top it all.

I think it is best said by this commenter at the site of the story:

Charging this 14 year old girl with a crime is insane. You can play all the blame games but the fact is 14 year olds are curious about sex. As long as the intended recipient of these photos was also a young teen and not an adult, this is an example of bad judgment, which in a 14 year old is not abnormal. The crime here is that we have headline-hunting prosecutors with no sense or proportion or human decency. This prosecution is child abuse. This prosecutor should be laughed out of a job that comes with public responsibility and into ambulance chasing. How can we expect teens to exhibit anything but bad judgment, when such abysmal example is set by "adults."
