Police raid Heckler & Koch in bribery probe

Police have raided the headquarters of German gun maker Heckler & Koch as part of an investigation into illegal gun sales to the Mexican government.

State police officers conducted the Thursday raid at the company’s Oberndorf corporate headquarters in Baden-Württemberg, searching the building and several nearby private homes for information about bribes the company is alleged to have paid to Mexican officials.

Those bribes are said to have resulted in weapons contracts with authorities in Mexico.

The company, which produces many of the world’s most popular small arms for police and military use, has been dogged by investigations into its Mexican operations for years.

Last December police searched its headquarters after it was accused of bribery and selling arms to Mexican states where serious human rights abuses had taken place.

It later said it never sold weapons directly to Mexican states, but rather directly to Mexico’s federal government.

Hmm, I wonder, and this is just pure speculation on my part, if there are any papers relating to Gun Walker...

The most damning revelations coming out of the hearings on Operation Fast and Furious held by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform are the unmistakable indications that the program was never designed to succeed as a law enforcement operation at all.

A quartet of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agents and supervisors turned into whistleblowers to bring the operation down, but only after U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was gunned down in the Arizona desert. Two of the weapons recovered at the scene of Terry's murder were traced to the operation.

Fast and Furious, also known by the more accurate "Gunwalker," allowed known straw purchasers to buy large quantities of firearms — often a dozen or more semi-automatic rifles — at a time with the full knowledge of ATF agents and executives. The guns were then smuggled into Mexico, as frustrated front-line ATF agents watched, under strict orders to do nothing.

ATF agents testifying in front of the House Oversight Committee could not explain how the operation was supposed to succeed when their surveillance efforts stopped at the border and interdiction was never an option.

ATF Agent John Dodson, testifying in front of the committee, said that in his entire law enforcement career, he had "never been involved in or even heard of an operation in which law enforcement officers let guns walk." He continued: "I cannot begin to think of how the risk of letting guns fall into the hands of known criminals could possibly advance any legitimate law enforcement interest."

The obvious answer is that Gunwalker's objective was never intended to be a "legitimate law enforcement interest." Instead, it appears that ATF Acting Director Ken Melson and Department of Justice senior executives specifically created an operation that was designed from the outset to arm Mexican narco-terrorists and increase violence substantially along both sides of the Southwest border.

This past weekend, both David Codrea and Mike Vanderboegh pointed out that their sources were supported by the WSJ report that Melson is likely gone and today, CNN reported the same on the Web and on the air:

Now, people may get all excited, but they should not beyond the fact that one criminal MAY be down and further proof and testimony is needed to finish this work that so that the States, or Congress can charge, impeach and then the Senate tries Barack Hussein Ombama for high Crimes.

MISSION — Drug smugglers opened fire on U.S. law enforcement officers Sunday morning near the Anzalduas International Bridge after Mission police intercepted a 500-pound load of marijuana, police Chief Leo Longoria said.

U.S. law enforcement officers shot back, Longoria said, and no injuries were reported. Details remained hazy Sunday afternoon, and Longoria couldn’t give further information about the brief shootout.

AND

Six police units, several more from the Department of Public Safety and a Border Patrol helicopter were called to assist. As the pickup fled, a green Chevrolet Avalanche with a young woman behind the wheel began harassing officers, Longoria said.

"She went head-on toward a police vehicle," Longoria said. "We're trying to see what her intent was, but obviously it was a very reckless action on her part."

Curious as Bordeland Beat just reported about it being safe to go back in the water as "Tourism rebounds on violence-marred border lake".

Nope, no spillover here, nothing to see, move along, go catch some fish...

FALFURRIAS — Federal agents arrested the Pharr mayor’s son after they found more than 114 pounds of marijuana inside his vehicle.

U.S. Border Patrol arrested Leo Palacios III after he pulled up to the Highway 281 checkpoint south of Falfurrias about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint. After a secondary inspection, they found the pot stashed in his Mercedes E320 sedan’s trunk.

Palacios, who lives in Austin and is son of the Pharr mayor of the same name, claimed he was in the Rio Grande Valley on business.

“I did not know anything about this,” the mayor said. “All I know was that he was arrested for possession. He hasn’t called me or anything.

Agents say they were about to release Palacios from the checkpoint when he started moving his car forward slowly.

Agents tapped the side of his car and waved their hands while telling him to stop, the complaint states. Other agents yelled at him to stop and he finally complied.

A drug dog alerted to the trunk of Palacios’ car and agents asked him to move it to secondary inspection. Palacios asked the agents why he needed the inspection, saying he didn’t see the dog do anything. Another agent commanded him to move the car to secondary and Palacios complied.

For those who have been paying attention, the Gunwalker conspirators' cover-up has been reduced to a tattered piece of underwear that wouldn't cover Weiner's little wiener.

First, the testimony of the ATF agents at the hearing today demonstrated that there was no "sting", thus there could not have been a "botched sting." What there was, it seems, was a program to encourage straw purchases and smuggling, but no "sting" by any known meaning of that word. Which begs the question, why? Issa, nettled by Cummings' complaints of a "political agenda" responded by asking if the entire purpose of allowing large numbers of weapons into Mexico didn't itself serve a political purpose? Meaning, of course, further restrictions on American firearm rights. Precisely.

Mike Vanderboegh and David Codrea truly deserve heaping praises for their tenacious grip since last December. It was they and the boys at CleanUp ATF that got the ball rolling and are closer and privy to much more information than I and why I want everyone to go read their posts, especially today's from MVB in regards to the Project Gunwalker hearings.

I watched over lunch to see so much fecklessness by certain representatives, Suckass and Lacy to name two, is angering and if you watch, you will understand my earlier post. Moreover, anymore I have nearly ZERO capacity for toleration of such- not just from politicians but those like Weasel Weich as well. However, I want to point out two things from this afternoons hearings- one was Blake Farenthold's suggestion about PRIVATE viewing of documents and then Issa's offer at the end of today's hearings about REDACTION. Remember everyone, they are POLITICIANS.

First it was DHS spending lots of time here (more than a day), now it is the DOJ and they are ripping this blog.



For those that do not know what "Rippers" in the Browser type setting in the image, it is any number of different tools used to rip an exact copy of a site. I have seen it before (many times) and in fact the US Navy NNIC, on the West Coast, visited just yesterday, early in the morning, and the browser was Rippers then too, but they only spent about six minutes and their referral was from another blog that I link to and figured it was a bored Seaman and why I am not showing the screen grab.

Now, someone at DOJ is either shocked, dismayed, ignorant, or just plain- well, I won't be insulting since they actually used both Yahoo and Google using two different search terms, but, as I told DHS on February 9th, DOJ- go catch some criminals! You already have had David Codrea, Mike Vanderbough and CleanUpATF.org do much of the heavy lifting. But, if that is not enough, go ask Senator Grassley and CBS for their notes on the "Killer Management" of ATF.

Legislation introduced in the Senate this week would broadly criminalize leaks of classified information. The bill (S. 355) sponsored by Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) would make it a felony for a government employee or contractor who has authorized access to classified information to disclose such information to an unauthorized person in violation of his or her nondisclosure agreement.

Under existing law, criminal penalties apply only to the unauthorized disclosure of a handful of specified categories of classified information (in non-espionage cases). These categories include codes, cryptography, communications intelligence, identities of covert agents, and nuclear weapons design information. The new bill would amend the espionage statutes to extend such penalties to the unauthorized disclosure of any classified information.

(Another pending bill, known as the SHIELD Act, would specifically criminalize disclosure — and publication — of information concerning human intelligence activities and source identities. Both bills were originally introduced at the end of the last Congress, and were reintroduced this month.)

"I am convinced that changes in technology and society, combined with statutory and judicial changes to the law, have rendered some aspects of our espionage laws less effective than they need to be to protect the national security," said Sen. Cardin. "I also believe that we need to enhance our ability to prosecute... those who make unauthorized disclosures of classified information."

"We don't need an Official State Secrets Act, and we must be careful not to chill protected First Amendment activities," he said. "We do, however, need to do a better job of preventing unauthorized disclosures of classified information that can harm the United States, and at the same time we need to ensure that public debates continue to take place on important national security and foreign policy issues."

The Big Clubs in Mexico's Drug War Aren't Slipping Through the Gun-Show Loophole

Another series of leaked State Department cables made public this week by WikiLeaks lend credence to investigative reports on gun trafficking and the drug war published by Narco News as far back as 2009.

The big battles in the drug war in Mexico are "not being fought with Saturday night specials, hobby rifles and hunting shotguns," Narco News reported in March 2009, against the grain, at a time when the mainstream media was pushing a narrative that assigned the blame for the rising tide of weapons flowing into Mexico to U.S. gun stores and gun shows.

Rather, we reported at the time, "the drug trafficking organizations are now in possession of high-powered munitions in vast quantities that can’t be explained by the gun-show loophole."

Those weapons, found in stashes seized by Mexican law enforcers and military over the past several years, include U.S.-military issued rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers and explosives.

PHARR - Tragedy was avoided after a grenade thrown into a tavern outside the city failed to explode.

Deputies do not know who tossed the explosive inside El Booty Lounge, 3701 N. "I" Road late Saturday night, said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño.

Authorities evacuated the bar after they received a call about the explosive, which was apparently tossed into the bar. No injuries were reported and bomb did not detonate because both pins were not removed, Treviño said.

A live grenade tossed into a Pharr bar last month came from the same cache of weapons used in recent attacks on a Monterrey television station and that city's U.S. Consulate, law enforcement officials said.

Investigators have traced the explosives used in each incident to a lot manufactured in South Korea and later discovered in a stash house believed to be run by the Zetas, the heavily armed paramilitary wing of the Tamaulipas-based Gulf Cartel.

Pharr man claims Mexican gunmen pushed him to smuggle machine gun Part II

I first posted about this here. Since then, I have been trying to dig up information regarding the FUD produced by it. I spoke to several friends and business associates along that area of the border and two were finally able to confirm what was originally presumed- it was SEMI-AUTO.

Both men gave similar accounts that stated:

• The 21-year old man attempted to cross the border with this around 10:30PM.
• He was seemingly accompanied by at least one vehicle (one man said 1 the other said 2).
• That CPB and the Pharr PD (was told they have men stationed at bridge too) became suspicious when they attempted to turn around. 
• The accompanying vehicle(s) split and the H3 was stopped wherein the M1919A4 was discovered. 
• Some CPB and Pharr PD police thought it was full auto but others QUICKLY pointed out that it was not. 
• Moreover, those bright CPB and Pharr PD Policemen also pointed out that he DID NOT have any belts or a belt linker.

So much for those "Authorized Journalists" at The Monitor and Jared Taylor's reporting skills, but then again, after reviewing comments from several of it's and his "news stories" that I am sure were scrupulously regurgitated reported (then re-written), one cannot expect too much...

PHARR — Federal authorities arrested a 21-year-old Pharr man who allegedly tried to smuggle a machine gun into Mexico.

A Pharr police officer stopped Julio Cesar Ramirez's in a white 2006 Hummer H3 as he attempted enter the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, according to a criminal complaint.

The officer said he noticed a black gun case in the back seat of the Hummer and called U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers to the scene.

Since yesterday, this article has been re-written, the FUD has been toned down and the M1919A4 shown in the picture is no longer stated as water-cooled. I am working on digging up more information in regards to this as only the local ABC affiliate down there has a story about it. If wanting to read more about recent events on the border, the CBS affiliate stories are here.

There is something just not right about this and will follow-up when I can gain more information.

Summary: For many months the ATF's "Project Gunrunner" initiative was under fire for poor management, exaggerated statistics, etc. Floundering to carry out an agenda that wasn't entirely covered by the law, stung by poor publicity and an Inspector General's report that excoriated their performance, it is alleged by ATF's own agents that the Phoenix office of ATF began a policy of "walking" semi-automatic rifles south of the border -- at first with a wink and a nod, later, according to one agent:

Charlie Harman, Chief of Staff for Sen. Saxby Chambliss tells us you are the appropriate Senate Judiciary Committee contact to discuss "Project Gunwalker" with, and says he has already forwarded some relevant documentation to you. Here's why:

ATF employees are looking to come forward and provide testimony and documentation about guns being illegally transported to Mexico, with management cognizance, in order to pad numbers and justify Project Gunrunner expansion. This includes gun stores being used to allow illegal sales to proceed. Additionally, the gun used in the recent killing of a Border Patrol agent is alleged to be one of the guns involved. My colleagues and I working to bring this to light are told the Mexican authorities have been intentionally kept in the dark about this, with the approval to do so coming from Washington, and protests have been overridden.

Action 4 News has learned that the violence started following the death of Gulf Cartel leader Antonio Ezquiel Cardenas-Guillen on Friday.

Cardenas-Guillen, who went by the nickname “Tony Tormenta,” was killed in a battle with Mexican marines in Matamoros.

Residents of Ciudad Mier report that the gun battles have been non-stop.

It’s believed the fighting is taking place between Gulf Cartel and their former allies Los Zetas.
