A Fort Worth family is demanding that a 911 operator be fired after she failed to respond to a potential life-threatening situation.
Police are now investigating - and taking very seriously - the concerns of the Diaz family. They placed a 911 call while someone was attempting to break into their home, and they now say the operator blew them off during that time.
The kicked-in front screen door provides a sign that someone tried to break into the Diaz home two weeks ago. However, the best evidence may be the terror in the voice of Jeannette Diaz, 14, who placed the 911 call.
There's people outside with knives," Diaz told the operator. "They are breaking down the door."
Diaz's mother can be heard in the background. Both had retreated to a back bedroom for protection, hoping police could hurry and provide the rest.
"I was scared that they had a gun and I was real scared that they were going to shoot," Diaz said later. "I didn't know what to do."
Her fear turned to anger, though, when the operator began questioning the validity of the call.
"OK, who were they, because strangers don't just come bang down your door with knives," the operator told Diaz. "Do you have a brother or father there who they were looking for?"
"I don't know, they were just screaming," Diaz replied.
"Ma'am, you need to be honest with me," said the operator.
Seconds later, after the would-be attackers left, the 911 operator decided the call did not merit a follow up by police.
"If they come back, please give us a call back," the operator said. "OK?"

Why perform an investigation?
Simply listen to the tapes, if she did what the Diaz's say, then she is fired. What would that take, five minutes?
Then, the Diaz's sue the city and win another Texas Lottery. I am sure that is what would happen if they were protected with a private security.
However, personal security, would have been a much better.
Oh, that is right, if people started fending for themselves, that would put a few folks on the government teat out of work...

"Government credit cards continue to be misused by federal bureaucrats to charge personal items such as diamond rings, ski clothes, karaoke machines, even a mounted deer head. Obviously no one is minding the store.
The General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress, reported this week that Defense Department employees and other bureaucrats used cards to make hundreds of millions of dollars in improper purchases. A Navy employee charged $132,000 for cosmetic surgery, a motorbike, two cars and other items. A Defense Department worker, operating a scam with her brother, charged $1.7 million in bogus purchases on a government card.
The Department of Education used government purchasing cards to buy 241 personal computers for $261,500. The computers have never been found. Many other questionable purchases, such as overpriced briefcases, apparently received rubber-stamp approval.
Meanwhile, government card users failed to take advantage of $300 million in available discounts one of the reasons for the cards being issued. Incredibly, few government employees have been disciplined for their transgressions, the GAO finds."

Cold Fusion in from the cold?

Safety is just an Illusion (Just a quick post really- to start off with.)
I recently had to serve jury duty. It was actually jury empanelment, but it took two of my business days.
On the second day, we had to be at the courthouse, and before going through the metal detectors, I emptied my pants, vest and shirt pockets of all metal items:
1. Swiss Army Pocket Knife Knock-Off w/ 1½� Blade, Philips & Flat Head Screw Driver, Corkscrew, Bottle Opener, and Scissors w/ ½� Blade (if that).
2. Buck Knife Mini-Tool (Really a small Needle-Nose Pliers)
3. Leatherman Wave
4. Keys
5. Surefire E-2 (which the Deputy really liked)
6. Mobile w/ Hands-Free Set
7. Six Inch IºMark Braided Stainless Steel Pen (which the Deputy really liked)
8. Glasses Case
I had left the weapons in the vehicle, but low and behold, what do they give me, but a receipt for pick-up for when I leave for items 1, 2, and 3. Yes, I was able to keep the rest and I never had to take off my vest (even though I set off the metal detector).
The Deputy told me: “Ain’t 9/11 grand?� I told him yes, especially since they hadn’t caught anyone…
