Gun owners accuse UN of July 4 conspiracy
By Irwin Arieff

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Americans mistakenly worried the United Nations is plotting to take away their guns on July 4 -- U.S. Independence Day -- are flooding the world body with angry letters and postcards, the chairman of a U.N. conference on the illegal small arms trade said on Wednesday.

"I myself have received over 100,000 letters from the U.S. public, criticizing me personally, saying, 'You are having this conference on the 4th of July, you are not going to get our guns on that day,"' said Prasad Kariyawasam, Sri Lanka's U.N. ambassador.

"That is a total misconception as far as we are concerned," Kariyawasam told reporters ahead of the two-week meeting opening on Monday.

For one, July 4 is a holiday at U.N. headquarters and the world body's staff will be watching a fireworks display from the U.N. lawn rather than attending any meetings, he said.

For another, the U.N. conference will look only at illegal arms and "does not in any way address legal possession," a matter left to national governments to regulate rather than the United Nations, he added.

The campaign is largely the work of the U.S. National Rifle Association, whose executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, warns on an NRA Web site (http://www.stopungunban.org/) of a July 4 plot "to finalize a U.N. treaty that would strip all citizens of all nations of their right to self-protection."

Kariyawasam said, "The U.N. conference will not negotiate any treaty to prohibit citizens of any country from possessing firearms or to interfere with the legal trade in small arms and light weapons."
As far as you are concerned- hmm, what a fluff piece by Reuters, but then agian, what was one to expect of them.

Oh, and I am not sending you a letter, but a gift, and I am still pondering which one it shall be:

STUART - A mixed-breed dog was being placed in foster care Tuesday after being rescued from a transient Indiantown man who was allegedly having sex with the puppy.

A witness called a Martin County deputy who arrived to find Junio Trenta, 31, having anal intercourse with the dog amid the woods in the 3200 block of Southeast Dixie Highway about 12:11 p.m. Monday.

Upon being seen, Trenta said, "It's my dog," and, "What's the problem?" The male dog ran and hid behind the deputies, according to a report released Tuesday.

Trenta, a Mexican citizen working as a laborer, was charged with one count of felony sexual bestiality and one count of felony animal cruelty. He was also charged with one misdemeanor count each of giving a false name to deputies, exposure of sexual organs and possession of paraphernalia after a marijuana-smoking pipe was found in his pocket, according to the report.

He was being held on a $13,000 bail Tuesday at the Martin County jail.

Welcome, senor

Welcome, senor

As nice an American host as he's been to illegal aliens, President Bush could never make it as a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

In New Mexico yesterday to observe training exercises by the patrol, Mr. Bush watched as a simulated traffic stop was made and commands shouted out in Spanish to the occupants of the vehicle.

"A resigned looking couple sat in a white Ford Taurus wagon as they were interviewed by agents. The results were ambiguous," stated the White House pool report. "On the passenger side, the woman emerged and an agent put her hands behind her back...

"The man, who had been sitting on the driver's side, appeared to fare better, getting an 'hola' and a handshake from the president."
This says it all, doesn't it.

Another passing worth noting.

Frank Muther

SALINAS, Calif. (AP) - Frank Muther, a survivor of the Bataan Death March who helped establish a memorial for soldiers who died in the World War II atrocity, has died. He was 86.

Muther, a longtime dairy farmer, died of heart and lung failure Thursday, his son David told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Frank Muther's Army unit was captured in the Philippines in 1942 and forced to march to a prison camp about 70 miles away. The soldiers were given little food and water, and stragglers were executed. Thousands perished in what became known as the Bataan Death March.

Only 47 of the 105 Salinas soldiers who joined Company C of the Army's 194th Tank Battalion returned home after surviving the march and years in Japanese slave-labor camps.

Muther spent 44 months as a prisoner of war, the last two years in Japan, where he was forced to build bridges and shovel coal, and suffered starvation and torture.

Laws would track offenders, ban paint that disguises guns as toys

NEW YORK -- Criminals convicted of gun crimes in New York City would have to register and update their addresses _ similar to sex offenders _ under a law proposed by city officials on Monday.

The gun registry act is one of several modest measures that Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to push through the City Council as part of his effort to crack down further on illegal firearms. The city and state already have tough gun laws on the books.
It appears also time for something that "Kills Bugs Dead"; however, as if this stupidity was not enough, I do hope you noticed the part I highlighted, because I know that poor Sara's panties would really bunch if she ever met the Paranoid Family...

Privately Funded Trips Add Up on Capitol Hill
Report: $50 Million Spent in 2000-2005

By Jeffrey H. Birnbaum
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, June 6, 2006; A01

Over 5 1/2 years, Republican and Democratic lawmakers accepted nearly $50 million in trips, often to resorts and exclusive locales, from corporations and groups seeking legislative favors, according to the most comprehensive study to date on the subject of congressional travel.

From January 2000 through June 2005, House and Senate members and their aides were away from Washington for more than 81,000 days -- a combined 222 years -- on at least 23,000 trips, according to the report, issued yesterday by the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity. About 2,300 of the trips cost $5,000 or more, at least 500 cost $10,000 or more, and 16 cost $25,000 or more.

Jefferson Davis (1808 - 1889)

Jefferson Davis was born June 3, 1808, in that portion of Christian county, Kentucky, which was afterwards set off as Todd county. His grandfather was a colonist from Wales, living in Virginia and Maryland, and rendering important public service to those southern colonies. His father, Samuel Emory Davis, and his uncles, were all Revolutionary soldiers in 1776. Samuel Davis served during the Revolution partly with Georgia cavalry and was also in the siege of Savannah as an officer in the infantry. He is described as a young officer of gentle and engaging address, as well as remarkable daring in battle. Three brothers of Jefferson Davis, all older than himself, fought in the war of 1812, two of them serving directly with Andrew Jackson, and gaining from that great soldier special mention of their gallantry in the battle of New Orleans.
